Antonia’s Interview with Paste Magazine
Posted by · Gel

Paste: Are you excited about Lovesick’s move to Netflix and the U.S. audience?

Antonia Thomas: Yeah, very excited! We’re really proud of it. You know, with the first season of something you’re never quite sure how people are going to receive it, really. Now that we know that, generally, people like it, we’ve kind of relaxed into it and are just really excited for everyone to see the second season.

Paste: And the name change from Scrotal Recall to Lovesick has definitely been a good thing as well.

Antonia Thomas: [Laughs] The name change has been the best! I can’t tell you what a relief the name change is. It’s just so weird to feel proud about everything about the show but not wanting to talk about it because of the name! So yeah, I’m really, really pleased. I mean, technically, the name made sense in a funny way, but actually it completely mis-sold it in terms of the tone and what we were trying to do.

Paste: What attracted you to the show and Evie’s character?

Thomas: I really love the honesty of the show. It taps into a specific moment for a generation of people, you know, where you’ve left university or whatever it is you’re doing, and you’re in that space where you just don’t know if you’re on the right track with so many things. It’s just a really interesting period of uncertainty for a lot of people and that’s what immediately attracted me to the story. I thought it was really honest and fresh about that. And then, the character of Evie, I just loved her because she’s not your typical love interest. She’s very smart and scatty, a bit tomboyish. She’s layered, a complicated and complex person, and that character really interested me.

Antonia’s Interview with Digital Spy
Posted by · Gel

If you skipped the first series of Scrotal Recall because of the title, we don’t blame you – but you actually missed out on a rather sweet and really very good comedy series.

Netflix saw its potential – picking up a second series when original broadcaster Channel 4 declined, and renaming the show… as Lovesick.

“I’m so happy!” star Antonia Thomas told Digital Spy. “It’s basically changed my life, being able to actually talk about the show, as opposed to avoiding talking about it ‘cos you don’t want to mention the title.

“It was a weird situation to be in, because we were so proud of the show, but you didn’t feel like you could talk about it ‘cos you’d have to say ‘scrotal’ – so yeah, it’s great!”

Antonia Thomas To Play The Lead In ABC Pilot ‘Spark’
Posted by · Gel

Ahh! Some exciting news! Looks like Antonia has booked a lead role on an ABC pilot! Fingers crossed that it’ll get picked up!

In-demand British actress Antonia Thomas has been tapped to play the lead in the ABC drama pilot Spark, from ABC Studios.

Written by Michael Cooney, Spark is a lavish primetime drama series of passion, greed and hope in a Steampunk reality, circa 2016. Set in an alternate history where gas and coal fuel the world, the drama centers on the battle for power between two rival families and Pin (Thomas), a rebellious young woman with a spark of invention that could level both their empires. Thomas’ Pin is the smart, driven, fiercely independent young woman whose mission it is to bring back electricity to the masses no matter the cost.

This marks the U.S. television debut for Thomas, who fielded multiple offers for lead pilot roles this season, with ABC and ABC Studios particularly aggressive. In her native England, Thomas played one of the lead roles in the BAFTA award-winning series Misfits. She was nominated for the Best Female Newcomer Empire Award for her role in hit musical-feature Sunshine On Leith. She also stars in Scrotal Recall for Channel 4 and Netflix. Thomas is repped by Gersh, Principal LA and Curtis Brown.

‘Thea’ Wraps Filming
Posted by · Gel

“Misfits” star Antonia Thomas has wrapped filming on what will be her next project – an indie feature film titled “Thea,” co-starring alongside Luke Norris and Eileen Davies in what is said to be a London-set supernatural thriller, directed by Nirpal Bhogal (“Sket”) and produced by Uzma Hasan.

The film follows young couple, played by Antonia Thomas and Luke Norris, whose lives are turned upside down when they experience supernatural evils while struggling with the birth of their first child.

More via press release: “THEA is an evocative horror about the reality of the supernatural world encroaching into our everyday lives, a young family forced to turn to the occult to save their daughter from the supernatural entities that plague her. Taking as its inspiration the seminal horror films of the 70s, it is a chilling insight into the sacrifices we must make when we bring a new life into this world. Charlie (Antonia Thomas) and James (Luke Norris) are just starting their lives together; young and in love, they’re relishing having no responsibilities, until Charlie discovers that she is pregnant. Into their world comes Thea; a beautiful little girl. But her arrival brings with it terrifying entities that threaten their newly formed family, things that are beyond their understanding. Panic stricken, the young parents enlist the help of James’ estranged father Alistair, a dilapidated would-be occultist whose obsession drove his family apart and led his son to despise him. He diagnoses Thea as a beacon – a child whose very presence attracts the attention of the supernatural creatures that surround us. Charlie and James realise that they must dedicate their lives to protecting their unplanned daughter. As Thea grows into a young girl, the once playful entities that crowd around her become increasingly violent, vying for her attention and threatening her innocence. With Alistair at a loss, he turns to Elizabeth, an occult practitioner of great power who teaches Thea to control, rather than be afraid, of the dark forces around her. Thea’s newfound confidence unleashes something far more malevolent and terrifying than they have ever encountered.”
